Battersea Power Station’s Turbine Halls once powered the homes and businesses of London, but soon, they’ll be powering something quite different: the economy. Plans are underway to transform the cavernous halls into a brand new retail experience, and the first images of the Battersea Power Station shopping centre have got us keen to visit.
The first wave of retailers were announced last year, and skew towards the luxury, with Rolex, Hugo Boss (not the one formerly known as Joe Lycett), Uniqlo, Jo Malone, and MAC Cosmetics all announced to fill the halls. Archlight Cinema, who operate a cosy, hi-tech cinema experience just around the corner from the power station, will bring their second site to the development. Furthermore, world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua will open the second site of his botique BXR London gym inside, guaranteed to pack a punch.
The Battersea Power Station shopping centre will be split across two Turbine Halls. Turbine Hall A, which boasts Art Deco construction from the 1930s, is reserved for “premium” brands, whilst Turbine Hall B, a brutalist space from the 1950s, will be home to a more eclectic range of shops. All in all, more than a hundred retail, leisure, and food outlets will open at the site when it launches, which was scheduled for 2021 pre-pandemic.Advertisement
That’s not even the end of the new arrivals in the area; Battersea Power House – which is also part of the development – will provide event spaces for culture, music, and fashion happenings, and will also feature this breathtaking glass lift that’ll whizz you up 109 metres for views across London. Getting there will be a breeze too, as the Northern line extension is moving steadily towards completion. Add into that the fact that Birdies have already opened a trippy, immersive crazy golf course out there, and you can start to see why excitement is building for the grand resurrection of Battersea Power Station!
